about

The title of the song "Garryroe" comes from the name of a farmhouse and townsland nr Ardfinnan in Co. Tipp, Ireland from where Paula hails and the song evokes feelings which we all have for times, places and people whom we miss for one reason or another

lyrics

GARRYROE

Verse 1

No smoke from the chimney
No sign of life to see
O Garryroe, once you were my home Refrain
No fire in the hearth
No home made apple tart
O Garryroe, once you were my home
No plough to till the soil
No kettle on the boil
O Garryroe, once you were my home

Chorus

Though it seem that life has gone
The spirit lingers on
Memories forever held
Despite these crumbling walls

Verse 2

No Ivy climbs the walls
No more sycamores standing tall
O Garryroe, once you were my home
No more pot plants in a row
No more flowers here do grow
O Garryroe once you were my home
No more apples on the trees
No more beauty bats for me
O Garryroe once you were my home

Chorus

Though it seem that life has gone
The spirit lingers on
Memories forever held
Despite these crumbling walls

Verse 3

No more hens or fresh eggs each day
No more barn full of hay
O Garryroe, once you were my home
No more “bleddy walked ears”
No more bluebells's bark I hear
O Garryroe, once you were my home
No more Dadda to be seen
No more Ned or Pat or Queen
O Garryroe, once you were my home

Chorus

Though it seem that life has gone
The spirit lingers on
Memories forever held
Despite these crumbling walls

Coda

No more ancestors of mine
No more heard the name of Ryan
O Garryroe, once you were my home
